One of the fall’s biggest blockbusters is sure to be Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to 2018’s Black Panther, a film that is widely regarded as the best entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It garnered a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards and won Oscars for Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design. Director Ryan Coogler is back at the helm for Wakanda Forever, and from what we’ve seen from trailers and early reaction, this film appears to be just as visually stunning and immersive as the first.

While excitement for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is high, there is also a sadness to this moment in film history. Chadwick Boseman, the actor who brought the iconic character of T’Challa to life on screen, passed away in the summer of 2020, after several years fighting cancer. Coogler and the cast of Wakanda Forever have spoken about how they grieved together while filming, and that honoring Chadwick’s legacy was a driving force behind the making of this movie. Judging by the emotional and moving trailers, Wakanda Forever will let the audience feel that loss as well, as the story of Wakanda continues.
