Omar

Omar is accustomed to dodging surveillance bullets to cross the separation wall to visit his secret love Nadia. But occupied Palestine knows neither simple love nor clear-cut war. On the other side of the wall, the sensitive young baker Omar becomes a freedom fighter who must face painful choices about life and manhood. When Omar is captured after a deadly act of resistance, he falls into a cat-and-mouse game with the military police. Suspicion and betrayal jeopardize his longtime trust with accomplices and childhood friends Amjad and Tarek, Nadia’s militant brother. Omar’s feelings quickly become as torn apart as the Palestinian landscape. But it’s soon evident that everything he does is for his love of Nadia.

Earth Day Screening of Plastic Paradise

Thousands of miles away from civilization, Midway Atoll is in one of the most remote places on earth. And yet its become ground zero for The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, syphoning plastics from three distant continents. In this independent documentary film, journalist/filmmaker Angela Sun travels on a personal journey of discovery to uncover this mysterious phenomenon. Along the way she meets scientists, researchers, influencers, and volunteers who shed light on the effects of our rabid plastic consumption and learns the problem is more insidious than we could have ever imagined.

Back by popular demand, The Picture House, Meridian Risk Management and Joan Solimine Real Estate are pleased to present Date Night on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. As in the past, film-lovers throughout lower Westchester, the Bronx and surrounding communities were asked to vote for their favorite Date Night film at www.thepicturehouse.org/date-night from a ballot chosen by The Picture House’s Board of Directors. This year’s winner is the Billy Crystal/Meg Ryan classic When Harry Met Sally.

“The last Date Night at The Picture House was such a success that we knew we had to do it again,” said John Calvelli, Chair of the Board of Directors at The Picture House. “We encourage the community to go online and vote for their favorite films and look forward to a casual, fun-filled evening with friends, topped off with a champagne toast in the theater.”

To kick-off the evening, restaurants in lower Westchester and the Bronx will provide a 20 percent food discount to Date Night attendees.
