"It's an exciting sports movie, an inspiring tale of prejudice overcome and, above all, a fascinating study of political leadership." - A.O. Scott, New York TImes
From director Clint Eastwood, "Invictus" tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa's underdog rugby team as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match.

"This sophisticated, analytical, and lyrically heartbreaking account should become required viewing for anyone who cares about the future of ideas." - Sundance Film Festival review
REPORTER is a feature documentary about Nicholas Kristof, the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the New York Times, who almost single-handedly put the crisis in Darfur on the world map. The film puts the viewer in Kristof's pocket, revealing the man and his methods, and just how and why real reporting is vital to our democracy, our world-awareness, and our capacity to be a force for good. But REPORTER has a second agenda. By tracking a newsman, we track his news.
In the summer of 2007, Kristof traveled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to shine his light into the darkest pockets of conflict and poverty. On this trip, Kristof brought with him two young Americans, a student and a teacher. Their reflections of the heart-wrenching journey were posted alongside Kristof's bi-weekly columns.
To get the world to care, Kristof goes in search of individuals whose stories will reflect the country's desperate crisis and mobilize readers worldwide. He journeys through ravaged villages and displacement camps, and makes a harrowing visit to Congo's reigning rebel warlord, General Nkunda, at his jungle hideout. (Click here to view the trailer).
Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Nicholas Kristof will be on hand for a post-film discussion and a book signing!

OFFICIAL SELECTION OF THE 2009 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL!
THE THORN IN THE HEART (L'Epine dans le Coeur) is a personal look at the life of Gondry family matriarch, Michel's aunt Suzette Gondry, and her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves. Michel examines Suzette's years as a school teacher and her life in rural France. During the course of filming the documentary, Michel unearths new family stories and uses his camera to explore them in a subtle and sensitive way. THE THORN IN THE HEART had its world premiere screening in the official selection at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. (Click here for a clip).
Director Michel Gondry will be on hand for a post-film discussion with New York magazine's film critic, David Edelstein!
Michel Gondry began his filmmaking career directing music videos for such artists as The White Stripes, The Rolling Stones, Beck, and Daft Punk, among others. In 2001, Gondry made his feature-film directorial debut HUMAN NATURE from a screenplay from Charlie Kaufman. After working with Kaufman again on the Academy Award-winning ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, Gondry went on to write and direct the films THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP and BE KIND REWIND, and direct the documentary concert film DAVE CHAPPELLE'S BLOCK PARTY. DVD collections of Gondry's exemplary music videos and commercials were released in 2003 and 2009. He has recently authored a guide for DIY filmmaking entitled You'll Like This Film Because You're In It: The Be Kind Rewind Protocol and a comic book "We Lost the War but Not the Battle," both published by Picturebox. He is currently in pre-production on THE GREEN HORNET, a feature film about the iconic superhero that will star Seth Rogen, to be released in the summer of 2010 by Columbia Pictures.

Celebrate LIFE, ART, POPCORN
The December 4th fundraiser was a tremendous success! Amidst cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, a live auction, and a roving magician, guests were also able to learn about the imminent renovations to the 1921 theater and the many ways in which the Picture House is working to fulfill the mission of becoming a state-of-the-art film and education center. A surprise $100,000 challenge gift inspired those in attendance to step up and match this generous donation. At the close of the evening, we had raised $200,000 for the capital campaign-enough to begin the major renovations as scheduled in March 2010! Thank you to everyone who has helped to turn our vision for the Picture House into a reality! Help us keep the momentum going by donating to the capital campaign here.
